খাওয়ার আগে সব ইহুদিদের হাত ধোয়ার নিয়ম ছিল?

সমালোচকের দাবিঃ ‘‘মার্কের এ বক্তব্য ইহুদি ও খ্রিষ্টান গবেষকদের মধ্যে উল্লেখযোগ্য বিতর্ক সৃষ্টি করেছে। বিশেষত ইহুদি গবেষকরা তালমূদের প্রমাণের ভিত্তিতে উল্লেখ করেছেন যে, খাওয়ার আগে হাত ধোওয়া শুধু ইহুদি যাজকদের জন্য বাধ্যতামূলক ছিল। ফরীশী ও অধ্যাপকদের মত সাধারণ মানুষদের জন্য এ বিধান ছিল না। হতে পারে যে, কতিপয় বা অনেক ফরীশী ঐচ্ছিকভাবে এ নিয়ম মেনে চলতেন, তবে ‘সকল ইহুদি এ বিধান মানত’ বলে দাবি করা নিশ্চিতভাবেই সম্ভব না। মার্ক এখানে ভুল করেছেন। যে বিধানটা কখনোই সকল ইহুদি পালন করত না সেটাকে সবাই পালন করত  বলে তিনি উল্লেখ করেছেন।’’

জবাবঃ ইহুদিদের ধর্ম গ্রন্থেই এই আদেশ দেওয়া  আছে যে,  সব ইহুদিদের  খাবারের আগে হাত ধুতে হবেঃ

The Gemara continues its discussion of washing hands. Rabbi Zerika says that Rabbi Elazar says: Anyone who treats the ritual of washing hands with contempt is uprooted from the world. Rav Ḥiyya bar Ashi says that Rav says: With regard to the first water, i.e., the water used when washing one’s hands before a meal, one must raise his hands upward after washing. With regard to the last water, i.e., the water used when washing one’s hands at the conclusion of the meal before reciting Grace after Meals, one must lower his hands downward. This distinction is also taught in a baraita (Tosefta, Yadayim 2:2): One who washes his hands before a meal must raise his hands upward after washing, lest the water advance past the joint onto the part of the hands that he was not required to wash, becoming impure, and then return to the area he had washed, rendering his hands ritually impure.[1]
